A new chapter and outdoor play area in Landsdale: Stage 2 is complete!

Stage 2 of the pirate ship yard renovation at Landsdale Early Learning and Enrichment (ELE) is complete! The latest update has brought new garden beds, curved lines and stepping stones to the outdoor yard, creating fresh ways for children to follow a path, pause and head off on an adventure.

A garden bed to look at. A stepping stone to follow. A path that curves and leaves room for imagination. Outdoor spaces can give children simple invitations to move, notice what is around them and make up their own games!

What changed in Stage 2 of the yard renovation?

This stage introduced three new features: garden beds, curves in the yard layout and stepping stones. Together, they add more shape and variety to the pirate ship yard and create new routes for children to explore.

The stepping stones can become the start of a journey. The curved paths invite children to see where the way leads. The garden beds bring greenery into the space and offer details to notice as the seasons change.

There is no single way to use an outdoor environment. One child might follow the stepping stones; another might turn the space into a story or a game with friends. These open-ended moments make room for movement, imagination and shared play.

Outdoor play is part of early learning

At Landsdale ELE, the yard is one of the spaces where children can play, explore and spend time outdoors as part of their day. Familiar places can feel different when children approach them with a new idea, a friend or something interesting to investigate.

Educators can join children in these moments—following their ideas, making time for conversation and supporting play as it unfolds. The goal is not to prescribe one adventure, but to make space for children to bring their own curiosity to the environment.

What is next for our outdoor play area in Landsdale?

Stage 2 is complete, and Stage 3 is coming soon! We will share more as the next part of the project takes shape.

For now, we are looking forward to seeing the new garden beds, curves and stepping stones become part of the everyday adventures happening in the yard.
